Have you ever thought that your balcony could become the most photographed (and loved) corner of the house ?
Whether it’s micro, long and narrow, square, or just underused, every outdoor space has enormous potential.
All it takes is a little thoughtful styling, a few well-placed plants, and the right furnishings to transform it into an Instagrammable balcony that makes you want to stay outdoors all day.
In this article we take you inside three balconies different in shape and atmosphere , with simple solutions to copy.
The styling we offer is never casual: each element is designed to enhance the space without weighing it down, with an eye on the materials and one on the emotions that an environment can convey.
And if at the end of the article you feel like revolutionizing your balcony… we hit the nail on the head.
1. Small square balcony? Furnish it with lightness and character
Let's start with one of the most common formats, especially in the city: a small square balcony . It may seem difficult to enhance, but with the right arrangement it can become a perfect corner for breakfast or a mini-aperitif in the open air.
Here's how to do it.
- Create a green perimeter: Place a few low planters along the edges or a tall planter or two in a corner to add structure and privacy. Plants define the space and add a sense of intimacy, as if it were an outdoor room.
- In the center, choose a compact set: a folding round table and two small stools are perfect for not taking up space and being able to move freely.
- Don't forget an outdoor rug: choose one with a geometric or floral pattern to mark out the table area. The rug, although often overlooked, is the key element for the magazine style.

2. White + natural materials: the mix that always works
If you love minimal but welcoming aesthetics, this solution is for you.
The starting point is the balance between natural materials (such as rattan, light wood or bamboo) and white details that add light and lightness.
What you need to recreate it:
-
Outdoor seating in natural materials : choose a small bench or armchair in rattan, perfect for transmitting a feeling of relaxation.
-
White planters : use them as a neutral background to make the green leaves of the plants stand out. They also work very well in pairs, with different heights. The fossil green color also works very well when paired with natural materials.
-
Neutral or ecru textiles : cushions, throws and rugs in earth tones complete the space and make it super photogenic.
This style works on both small and medium balconies and large terraces, because it keeps the environment tidy, fresh and without frills. A small urban oasis where you can unplug at the end of the day.

3. Narrow balcony (less than a meter)? Focus on verticality and symmetry
We have already given you several ideas for furnishing a long and narrow balcony , but if the balcony is very narrow (less than a meter?)
Who said a long and narrow balcony can't be super stylish? Even less than a meter deep can give you an impressive space, just play with verticality and keep the center free .
Two solutions to try:
Option 1 – Central wall protagonist
- Place two tall plants on the sides of the balcony , like green sentinels.
-
In the centre , along the wall, place a tall, colourful flower box , full of small plants of different shapes: it creates rhythm, but leaves the balcony very tidy.
Option 2 – Lateral Symmetry
- Leave the central passage clear .
- Place two or more different flowerpots on each end of the balcony . For each side, match different shapes and colors and mirror the composition on the opposite side of the balcony. The final effect will be harmonious and lively and you will have all the space to move around.

A few carefully chosen pieces: the key to an aesthetic balcony
The key to successful styling is the ability to choose a few right elements that speak the same language .
Make use of the walls, play with materials, give rhythm to the plants and do not underestimate the details. Even a single well-chosen detail can make the difference.
Every balcony can become Instagrammable, if you look at it with new eyes .
